fejs was all about networking and to create social webs.
but i also happened to unravel some personal meshes.

mari found this spooky tree with spider? webs.

i took a walk alone and reflected about everything under the sky.

... but of course it was not deep intellectual talking or thinking all the time.
while mari visited a french style bakery i captured this huge bread cow ;)

journalists going nuts?

reflecting over my experiences in cologne.

could this be the trip in a nutshell: the dome, spooky skulls and a journalist?
well, maybe not the skulls (although i adore them)
... and the nut needs to be a bit bigger to fit all the other 99 journalists as well ;)

so, the fejs congress i cologne is hard to summarize with a few subjectives, but i'll try with 3 adjectives instead:
inspiring, social and exhausting.

18.05.2014 kl. 17:17

faces of european journalism

the 1st day at the FEJS congress for young journalists.

panel debates, new media, multiculturality, copters, interaction, innovation
... and tons of questions, but what else could you expect from 100 journalists ;)

16.05.2014 kl. 20:20

cool cologne

the sunny day made me long for frozen yoghurt, but they were out of lactose free in the two bars i ran in to.

the journalism congress in cologne started out promisingly. i spotted two dalmatians on the street ... and later in a shop!

14.05.2014 kl. 19:19

while waiting for my 9-year old kiddoes to arrive to my lecture about refugees in uganda, i felt like becoming small again. luckily i have a new toy to play with.

i have had a fetisch for neon these past grey months, and i don't fell like stopping.

today i will host a studio debate in tv, so jump into the coach and watch me here.

09.04.2014 kl. 11:11

i already have denmark fever, even before i know if i have the chance to move there.

i sent in an application to study photojournalism in aarhus.

please keep your fingers crossed while checking out my portfolio.

in aarhus they have a perfect exhange programme, but ...

the big but is the fierce competition. they actually require at least one year's studies in photojournalism - impossible here in finland.

here are some oldies from a family trip to copenhagen in december 2011

02.04.2014 kl. 19:19

birds song

a walk from uni/work together with this lady last thursday.

we heard birds singing in the evening sun and these pics are from the place named the birds song.
i will spend monday evening in this old people's home. i'm doing a publication for the foundation.

31.03.2014 kl. 19:14

sun rise - sun set

pensioneer aquatics at 7:30 am.

ready with tv course reading.
15.02.2014 kl. 18:18

studio smocka

together with saga i hosted my 1st radio programme.

our small team of students has made it all: concept, content, music and technique, but it wasn't a piece of cake.

technical challenges, 13 hours working days and plans that change more often than i change socks.

our "radio mom" malin made this utterly serious poster:

we celebrated this rollercoaster week with croissants, fruits and sparkling
- during the night, in the morning, from glasses or from coffee mugs!

later i skyped with my aunt and started packing.

but i had to take a break and introduce anni to johan & nyström.
matcha latte, lemon cake and an engaging discussion.
she has not been accepted to the philosophy programme at cambridge without a reason.

07.02.2014 kl. 23:26

peter pan of the 21st century

why not bike away from conflicts, global warming and other worries?

or just throw the problems into the worry shredder!
i tried both of course ;)

these past weeks have been though but inspiring and the upcoming one is the final test.
i will host the uni radio among other things, but on sunday the big adventure begins:
3,5 weeks at my aunt's place in thailand!

02.02.2014 kl. 18:18

pink science

sometimes even i see science as bright, fun and dynamic - heureka!

why not learn starch digestion through ball games?

or simulate cultivation or antigravity on mars: i really liked biology in school, but honestly never really cared about other scientific subjects. probably the formulas and the high level of abstraction scared me away.

01.02.2014 kl. 22:22

men think with their stomach

... but i think it's not a gender thing.

i had a great sushi dinner with mom the other day and really longed for it. but i always have cravings for sushi ;)

you might wonder what a ..... am i doing here?
i watched another psychosis simuation and then tried a digestive system chaperon to learn where the intestines are placed inside me ;)

01.02.2014 kl. 12:12

there is no universal truth

heureka might mostly attract kids, but is enlightening for all of us.

in the radio report i sat next to a lonely old man on a bench. he whispered crazy words of wisdom into my microphone.

i really miss our theory of knowledge classes in high school. is there such thing as absolute truth? became a hectic debate.

31.01.2014 kl. 17:17

accepting madness

... or is there even a clear border of madness? i think it is relative and can be just a healthy spice, but always lagom.

i did my 1st live radio reportage today and got a major psychosis
... in a simulator at the world's 1st exhibition of mental problems!

it was kind of challenging when the interviewee appeared just 2 minutes before we went on air and the simulator actually started working a second after the red light went on.

improvisation really is cold shower for all senses and i enjoyed my 6 minutes of radio madness.

do you see someone familiar in this version of the scream ;) ?

i find this painting by edvard munch so fascinating that i actually wrote a short story based on it in 9th grade.

30.01.2014 kl. 22:50

pizza perfecto

the last week's been too cold, too dark and too busy for photoblogging. i was the producer of our first radio talk show ever called helium and i'm so proud of our team i could ... levitate ;)

working the whole weekend
but got a evening date
with my best mate
pizza partying
extra everything

25.01.2014 kl. 23:07

soft start

alarm clock ringing at 4:45.
a nice "recovery" after the holidays.

i shoot this for an article that never needed to be written.
cygnaeus was a lovely old school and i felt like becoming a small student again!
... i might regret it on monday morning ;)

after a short training i almost fell asleep in the shower, but luckily i had a relaxing and delicious evening in front of me.

my old highschool gang (-mahanta) had a great chat at fafa's.

nice to have the fresh law graduate from england back.

this close friend is studying in the same kingdom, but she returns next week. our forth "member" flew already to london on sunday.

yes sabina, falafels are actually great!

i had never tried real ones, only avoided the gooey wannabees that they serve at unicafé when the veggie food run out.

10.01.2014 kl. 21:11

photos from my assistant

dad was called my "assistant" yesterday, and not without a reason. he gave feedback on my choice of pictures, bought paper with me, visited kinuskilla to plan and measure, lended his printer ... and his height was useful when hanging the photos. invaluable in other words!

and as you see photography has flooded into my veins from both parents. here are dad's vernissage photos:

toasting with good old friends!

what is the link between these four women? a connection to me and the camera.

stella and paul after cake.

the leica lovers.

check out some more here!

05.01.2014 kl. 21:21

vernissage visitors

i didn't have time for photography at the opening night, but luckily mom and dad brought their cameras.

for the first time i show you photos taken by someone else than me.

here are mom's documentative captures from yesterday:

these helsinki girls were not the only ones struggling to find the way, but i am so grateful that they made it!

- which one is your favourite? discussed mom's good friends (intitially her's but now also my friends).

some cousins popped by between the little man's, my god son's, soccer games nearby.

my god parents bought some art works - thank you!

talented photo buddies who arrived from as far as hangö!

eagerness, creativity ... crazyness ;) ?

thank you for coming, and for all the flowers!

05.01.2014 kl. 10:16

bubbles of elderflower

what a vernissage!

thanks guys - i hope this won't be my last one. around 40 guests oriented themselves out to kinuskilla this rainy saturday.

and for you who missed it, it will hang there until the end of february. i might even organise a second meeting there later this month!

i already sold some copies, but please buy more ;)

04.01.2014 kl. 19:17

welcome to my vernissage

this saturday 4th of January from 2 to 4pm at kinuskilla. the exhibition hangs there until the end of february. welcome!

31.12.2013 kl. 10:01

c u l8r

i am not going to see this dear tower from a close distance for a close future. november is full of school duties, freelance work and birthday parties.

06.11.2013 kl. 06:06

no pigsty anymore

i enjoy my home again. i finally got to swipe away the grey concrete dust covering everything after the kitchen catastrophe.

not even the sunrays can spot dust anymore.

03.11.2013 kl. 23:42

while working

i am choosing pictures for the photo reportage and found some irrelevant, but important, moments between the estonian interviews: the lunch breaks.

buckweat casserole with mustard sauce.

31.10.2013 kl. 08:08

cactus throat

stormy hapsal gave me great memories, but also a flu. maybe one of these cactuses hopped from the hapsal home into my troat ;)

31.10.2013 kl. 05:05

black poodles cooking orange pumpkins

beyond the tourist shops and shamefully drunk finnish people tallinn old town is beautifully genuine.

me and annina visited an old prison to compare today's town with the tiny place it used to be. nowadays the prison hosts the photo museum you see beneath.

tonight tallinn was all about candle light dinners in the many many restaurants i passed by.

i bet annina's pumpkin risotto à la black poodel was awesome!

30.10.2013 kl. 07:07

humans of hapsal

helpful, happy, hard-working and warm-hearted.
27.10.2013 kl. 09:09

memories of multiculturality

i met estonian swedes building a boat near this soviet railway stationthe russian era ended and so did the train traffic
the station is however a landmark that needs needling.

26.10.2013 kl. 20:20

wednesday hapsal waking up

hapsal is the town of turquoise homes and black cats ...

26.10.2013 kl. 13:23

an exclusive tour around the hoods of estonian swedes.
these crosses seemed to hug each other.

eternal love.

25.10.2013 kl. 20:20

professional prime time

first time dining alone - especially abroad.

but i must admit it feels quite professional to sit down with loads of papers, a posh camera and to agree on meetings in a funny language by phone.

this was the only open place i finally found, but it turned out to be an arty farty pearl!

24.10.2013 kl. 20:20

paint the world in colours

now the actual reporting has started.
but can't keep my hands of taking some photos just for fun!

on my way to the swedish church in tallinn.
estonia is not gray post-soviet anymore. it's as colurful and helping as the people i met!

and many interviews later in hapsal. quite funny to find this disco fountain all alone between the old picturesque tree houses.

24.10.2013 kl. 08:08

easy landing in estonia

updating without internet is a challenge. this is how we started the week of foreign reporting in estonia.

journalists really like job trips. but the biggest reason behind these smiles was the delicious and cheap lunch they just had.

dani got her duck all wrapped up like on christmas!

i tried buckweat porridge with capers and sundried tomato.
ethnicity is one of our tasks here after all.

23.10.2013 kl. 18:56

tram time

the nights are cooling beneath zero so guess bike season is soon over for me.

isn't it the ultimate urban life to sip on a morning coffee while waiting for the tram?

17.10.2013 kl. 23:30

every day is a surprise

i jump off my bike 5:45 and look up. with gloomy eyes i barely see the tower. it just waits for me to turn domestic happenings into radio waves.

i step inside the news room and hear a baby crying.
news 1: sleeping baby bit by forest mouse

then i thought i was done for the day, but got struck by the supercell.
news 2: computer game sold to japan for more than a billion €

it is like working at the fun house. you never know what will happen. unfortunately news in this cruel world can not always turn out fun.

16.10.2013 kl. 15:15

is it so wrong?

when i finally decide to "invest" in something totally shallow like clothes or a cool earring it actually makes me content.

especially if i know it's unique, vintage, eco-friendly or good quality.

like these sweet jewellery handmade by a laughing lady.

i mainly shop twice a year - during the sales. then i hunt for forgotten pearls in boutiques that i couldn't normally afford.

mutual happiness.
they get rid of their goods and i'm the one getting them ;)

isn't it false to whine about chains invading the city if you don't support local business yourself?

i recommend the helsinki design district for some cool finnish creations.

but don't shop until you drop.

i like to choose my target destinations and return with one purchase.
sports equipment make my literally hop of joy. it's like getting toys as a kid!

sore feet, hunger and bags filled with already forgotten goods will most likely lead to regression.

14.10.2013 kl. 16:00

women with confidence

colourful, brave and happy people carry charisma. these are real madames.
pink hair, tattoos and a boa scarf - a tribute to me with a glass of champagne!

ladies were trying hats everywhere. looking chic don't you think?

i rather watched this girl and her friend imitatating fitness moves rather than followed the real show.

13.10.2013 kl. 00:17

politics and ego boost

an awesome day at work!

after interviewing the outgoing development minister i went to portray the i love me fairs.

own intiatives are often welcome, and turn out pretty well, don't you think?

- i want that one, says a little princess.

this is what i want: yoga couture. the crazier colours the better.

i actually received a compliment on my space leggings the other day from a fashion blogging transvestite

body painting is fascinating. i would actually want to try it if i ever got the opportunity.
a journalist at hufvudstadsbladet actually did, but the poor man seemed scared.

12.10.2013 kl. 23:36

99: relax & reflect

what happens if you bunch up an international group of aspiring journalists?

deep debates about the cruel media climate. imagine all the people ...

but no food - no brain work. the raw lingonberry cake matches the matcha
maria - the girl with the lingonberry hair

i really like our chill and colourful class of foreign reporting.

09.10.2013 kl. 20:55

98: morning circus & evening quiche

came late to school because of this. who bikes by a free circus? the spotted one looks like pippi longstockings "lilla gubben".

here is my birthday pie for mum: feta-edamame-greencabbage-broccoli-onion.

happy birthday mum <3

08.10.2013 kl. 21:22

94: expectations

handing over one thousand photos to jonna who moves to germany tomorrow. she is as brave, calm and independent as her gaze. and as cool as her shoe laces!

i also have high expectations on a trip this month. scheming for foreign reporting in estonia.

04.10.2013 kl. 19:41

91: our pride

the visit at hesari finished - time for some finnish fish.

most of my classmates in front of the giant pike sculpture outside the music house, where they actually served nordic pike beef for lunch ;)

one summer me and my brother caught so many pikes that fishing became forbidden for a while. dad was tired of gutting and mum of eating and preparing. we had oven pike, fried pike, grilled pike, smoked pike ... ;)

02.10.2013 kl. 22:21

82: sick and tired

but sometimes it's okay to not be cheerful. i was not eager to slowly pedal to school today.

although i have a brand new cycle path outside my door. ferrari red (almost).

glad i made the small effort: fascinating lectures and a new course. thumbs up for that!

korjaamo in autumn robes.

24.09.2013 kl. 17:17

81: colleagues counting corpses

not the funniest of days. i worked with domestic design whereas the foreign reporters followed tragedies in nairobi and in pakistan.

suddenly my flu seemed like a trifle.

our radio tower shined in the morning but was wet of tears ... from heaven? in the evening.

23.09.2013 kl. 21:46

78: rain pouring outside puro deli

long lunch date with dad at a warm oasis in the autumn rain. c-vitamin, colourful nutrition and calmness to combat the bacillus trying to ruin my weekend plans.

took a shot of echinacea.

i felt like this, but luckily today's programme wasn't physically demanding: foreign reporting, french and a photo lecture.

nuppu was actually really active. perfect for the job as chief of marketing. The security staff hid - as white and fluffy as her twin - in the back room. the team at puro melts both the customers and the potential robbers hearts.

20.09.2013 kl. 15:15

76: spontaneous lunch date

my rumbling stomach was howled down by my phone: a dear childhood friend asked for lunch company. guess who was eager to fill a hole in the timetable with meeting her, and the hole in the stomach with delicious veggie gratin.

we tried to eat at a sushi buffet but ended up in my favourite restaurant.

maria is as warm, natural and optimistic as this picture reveals. time always runs away with her. we chatted in the cosy surroundings for looong and then bought some seasonal fruit at the market place.

i almost forgot to return to the university. got exited by all the exchange programmes available.

dreamed far away at the hot pilates class.

18.09.2013 kl. 17:05

75: tough timetable

rushing from place to place. i don't mind a high pace when the tasks are interesting: school substitute, study visit, sweaty yoga and secret planning.

on my way home for the first time today. left the secret meeting in tölö feeling exited.

signed a contract for some artsy stuff. that is all i can utter.

17.09.2013 kl. 12:12

73: lost in the pumpkin garden

i feel like a shame for the world of orienteering. i used to compete in that sport, but this evening i tried to bike to a friend and returned 3 times to the same colony gardens.
i blame the tired brain cells after a long but fruitful day at work.

after a phone call and an advice from a gentleman i eventually arrived.

chai latte, chatting and chilling. we packed some donkeys and i lost the game with pride. packing has never been a strenght of mine.

15.09.2013 kl. 21:37

71: siesta

no lectures during midday so i skipped writing essays at the university. instead i did some "planning" on the sunny stairs at the senate square.

smiled at the tourists. the guy on the top kept taking shots of himself.
this is an honoured choir outside the faculty of law. it is our serious attitude towards academics which makes our university 69th in the world.

i represented the proper and hardworking elite student. did some window-shopping and checked out the new pop-up yoga studio. i'll try yoga for singles on fridays if i dare.

live life. love life.

i never wanna float around like an invisible and weightless piece of cloth anymore. that's past and far in the future. but cool to be a real ghost then when this life is completed with glory.

13.09.2013 kl. 21:51

65: lunch break reggae

the sun shined almost as strong as in ... jamaica?

the market square stalls reminded however about reality: the fall is here ... but apples falling from the tree into my bag isn't too bad ...

what would helsinki be without seasons? ... but i admit: i wear flip flops and summer dresses still as an attempt to hold on to summer ;)

07.09.2013 kl. 17:17

64: yes, i'm a morning person

getting up at 6am by free will is not easy i admit, but why snore in bed when you can gaze over a slumbering city from cool yoga asanas
i was almost disgustingly efficient this morning. trained and fresh i strolled to school to eat my ready-made breakfast and do home work - before my uni day from 10 - 17.

art is where you least expect it to be, but only if you seize the day and keep your eyes open. one good thing with not being able to bike ...

dad luckily solved my serious withdrawal symptoms by learning how to fix my dear bike.

i followed him out on the country side ... well espoo to chill with the family and the neighbour's dog.

coco melts my heart like ... coconut ice cream?

too adorable for a watch dog. we mingle in peace.

06.09.2013 kl. 15:15

63: lazy lady latte

walking the secret path between uni and mum's working place

time for brain relaxation and taste bud treatment at our favourite café by the sea

the maritime theme continued on our way home.

sunset sailor

05.09.2013 kl. 19:24

39: <3 my work

last day of my summer contract = got to choose what to do ... so I went to the Flow festival (before it opened but still :D )

then back cutting for the radio news programme

12.08.2013 kl. 07:22

24: 1e hat & show jumping

Free hands to do a summer report for the radio and caught this lovely lady. The hat was a bargain from a flea market.

After work I biked by these horse girls. Impressive, but riding is an unopened chapter for me.

27.07.2013 kl. 23:01

4: afterwork

21.07.2013 kl. 17:10
